I can predict the future.
No, I don’t have a crystal ball nor a set of ‘fortune-telling’ cards.
But I’m very certain of my message here to you.
My message is:
We teach and educate children from an early age to brush their teeth. Why bother? Because we don’t want to see them in pain or to get those not so welcome dentist’s bills! So we use ‘prevention’ because if not, you know for sure what will happen. And even if you aren’t a doctor, you know the consequences of not brushing the teeth on a regular basis.
So, what is happening to the spines of the children who spend their days hunched over their school desks or their e-toys and carrying heavy school bags?
It’s ironic that if we see a donkey carrying a heavy load, in no time there would be animal lovers coming out to protest, and rightly so but who’s paying attention to the children?
Well, I am, because I know what will happen to them and I am not prepared to turn a blind eye.
By the time they are teenagers, they are likely to suffer from back pain or feeling depressed. A lot of them will never recover fully and the pain and the misery will carry on throughout their lives.
Let me ask you a question. How is your back? Your confidence and self-esteem? Did you know the most likely cause for back pain is poor posture? What if you had been made aware and educated posture-wise when you were growing up? Would that have made you a different person today? More mobile, productive, successful, happier? I’ll let you ponder this.
We must stop turning a blind eye and hoping for the best. There is too much (back) pain around the world to keep fooling ourselves that everything will be OK. For a lot of children, it won’t!
We also must stop the old fashioned instructions like ‘sit up straight’ or ‘roll your shoulders back’ because they are nonsense! Was it helpful for you?
Upon invitation, I will come to schools to teach and bring posture awareness to teachers and parents. My aim with this is that teachers and parents start to introduce posture education to the children on a daily basis and as they see fit.

If you are wondering what qualifies me to do this work, well, I’m passionate about the subject of posture, I believe in my message and I’m making it my mission. Apart from that, I am a Yoga teacher and Feldenkrais Method (trainee) teacher and have spent many years studying the subject of posture.
