Have you come across this expression:
MOTION IS LOTION
Well, I don’t know who said it but it makes much sense.
So, what does movement means to the body?
Movement, just like lotion, hydrates and nourishes the joints and there is no other way we can do that but through movement.
So, this week I want to give you a few ideas of how you can keep your joints healthy, as you go about life, without involving the gym or yoga pants.
All of our joints have synovial fluid.
This is a thick liquid that lubricates the joints.
This lubrication gives the nourishment that the joints need to stay healthy and moving smoothly.
Lack of movement means the joints are starved of nourishment and along comes stiffness, aches & pains.
You and I know how easy it is to give in to the comforts of modern living and if we don’t make an effort we can spend days, weeks, months and years moving very little.
If you spend a lot of time sitting, you must (get into the habit) grab any opportunity to move as you go about your day.
And it is much simpler than you may think.
What do you do when you come across an escalator?
Well, most people stand and wait for the ride (not a criticism but an observation).
There is no rule that stops us from moving up and down on the escalator.
Escalators aren’t designed for us to stand still.
They are designed to move us quicker to avoid crowds from forming.
This is one of your chances to nourish your joints as you go about your day.
Don’t just stand there, use it to your adavantage.
STAIRS VS LIFT
When you come across a lift look for the stairs and use them instead – you don’t have to go up/down 10 flights, 2 or 3 is good enough, daily.
Take any opportunity to walk, 20 steps every so often is better than none.
Get off the bus one stop earlier, park the car a bit further away, during your coffee or lunch breaks walk around.
These are all organic and essential movements that your body relies on to function well that no gym work can replace.
Every movement you do matters to the joints, so don’t miss out on the many opportunities you have during the day to nourish your joints.
